A little background for this short story - Marisol has recently (the last week or so) become obsessed with "left" and "right" - always wants to know which way is which...
We visited our great friends in Charlottesville this past weekend. Rebecca was nice enough to treat us to pizza and ice cream for dinner on Saturday. Someone had to go pick it up and I asked Marisol if she wanted to go with Rebecca and her older son Noah (who is almost exactly the same age as Marisol- his birthday is only a little more than 2 weeks before her's) to pick up the food. I really didn't expect her to want to go without me but she surprised me (she does that a lot! )
I told her, "You get to go in someone else's van and ride in a different car seat!" (She loves vans... especially Grandma and Grandpa's... that's also why we call our Pilot a van :-)) She replied, "I am sooo lucky!"
Anyways, Rebecca reported the following conversation in the car between Marisol and Noah.
Marisol: My favorite direction is left, what's yours?
Noah: Mine is right. Mommy what is your favorite direction?
Rebecca: Weeeelll, right now it's right because the ice cream and pizza place are on the right! (Isn't she diplomatic? :-))
Noah: No it's not Mommy, your favorite direction is AROUND!
So Rob, (Rebecca's husband), Rebecca and I were all rolling with laughter as she relayed this story. Then I told it to Mike the next day and he said he didn't get it... was it the wine we had with dinner? Nah, I still think it's hilarious. I LOVE the way kids think and the way their brains work.
